How to play
- Red Gloops chase you and cost one heart per touch (then ~1s of invulnerability).
- Gloops take 3 sword hits. Their health bar appears when hurt or targeted.
- Spitters (squat pods with a long snout) swell and glow, then spit a green glob at where you stand. Step sideways, or hold the shield in front of you. Rush them and they stop firing. Rammerhogs (armoured boars) paw the ground and paint a red lane; step out of it. Their armour turns frontal sword hits away: hit them from the side or behind, or right after a charge when they are dazed (double damage). A shield stops a charge dead.
- Coins: monsters drop them (more for tougher ones, and for the Gravel King). Walk close and they fly to you.
- Villages: a new one every few hundred steps, styled by biome; gold dots on the minimap; open the map (M or the map button) to see the villages you have found, by name. Monsters stay out. Sleep in the Inn bed (E) to heal and set your respawn point. Shopkeepers sell meals, Heart Fruit and gear, healers mend you for coins, elders give one quest at a time (hunt monsters or carry a letter to another village).
- Danger grows with distance: past about 260 units from the start, monsters have more health and hit harder; from about 1,000 units out they have about 1.6x the health and hit one half-heart harder.
- Pink gems dropped by Gloops restore a heart. Reach 0 hearts and you get back up at your respawn point.
- Gate to the Hollow Keep dungeon: southeast of the start. Inside it is dark: clear the west room to reveal a Small Key, unlock the north door, open the chest in the east room for a Heart Container. Beyond the north door, push the heavy block onto the pressure plate to reveal the Boss Key and open the final door. Walk back to the glowing exit to leave. Everyone who enters meets in the same keep.
- More dungeons: Ember Hollow (about 550 steps south-west of the start) and the Sunken Archive (about 1,100 steps north) are bigger keeps for one player: two keys, one or two block puzzles. Twin Gate Vault (about 900 steps east) is a party dungeon for 2-3 players: its gate sign says so and it shows as an orange arch on the maps. Its last door opens only while two players stand on two pressure plates at the far ends of the vault at the same moment. Behind it waits the Twin Warden, built for a team: his front is armoured (swords do half damage), so one player keeps his attention while a friend walks round behind him and hits his back; later he aims some slams at whoever stands farthest away and calls in more gloops. Everyone who is there when he falls gets 800 coins and a Heart Container, once per account. Ember Hollow and the Sunken Archive each hide a Heart Container chest in a side room.
- Boss: beyond the boss door waits the Gravel King. Watch the red circles on the floor: they mark where he slams or where rocks fall, so step out of them. Hit him while he recovers from a slam for double damage. At half health he gets angrier and calls Gloops. If everyone falls, he resets.
- A full day lasts 5 minutes. Lamps and windows glow at night.
- Shield: hold it up to block hits from the front completely (the attacker gets shoved back). You walk slower and can't swing while it's raised. Shockwaves and falling rocks still hurt, but only half as much.
- Targeting makes you strafe around the enemy and keeps the camera locked on it. A gold marker floats over the target and its health bar stays up. The screen shakes when the Gravel King slams, rocks land, your shield takes a hit or the carved wall opens, and fades to black when you sleep or travel through a gate.
- Other players: you see everyone nearby; party members wear blue and show as cyan dots on the minimap. Press P to invite nearby players to a party. This panel does not pause the world.
